Chamber statement on House vote to overturn emergency tariffs

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE  - February 11, 2026Empty heading

NEW YORK, NY — Jessica Walker, President and CEO of the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce, released the following statement regarding the House of Representatives’ vote to terminate the national emergency declaration on tariffs:

"Today’s vote by the House confirms what the Manhattan Chamber detailed in our February 1 report: the only 'national emergency' we face is the rising cost of doing business.

"While we understand the political reality—that this resolution faces a steep uphill battle in the Senate and a veto threat from the President—the economic facts remain undisputed. Imposing emergency tariffs on our closest trading partner is not a negotiation strategy; it is a direct tax on the 125,000 businesses that drive New York’s economy.

"Every day this policy remains in place is another day of inflated costs for our supply chains and higher prices for consumers. Washington may be gridlocked, but the data is clear. We urge the Senate to follow the House’s lead and put economic stability ahead of political leverage."
