The Manhattan Chamber of Commerce applauds a $284 million investment in a new quantum technology lab in Manhattan that will train CUNY and public school students and help more than 100 companies grow.

-October 14, 2026-

Today Mayor Zohran Mamdani, Deputy Mayor for Economic Justice Julie Su and NYCEDC announced that the city will invest $29.2 million in a new Quantum Fabrication Facility (QFab) at NYU. NYU is adding $255 million for construction and ten years of operations.

The 23,000-square-foot lab at 770 Broadway is expected to open in 2030. It will give researchers, startups and established companies access to specialized equipment for building and testing quantum devices. It will also create training pathways for New Yorkers, including CUNY certificate programs for quantum technicians, internships and summer bootcamps for public school students.

By the numbers

  • $284 million in combined public and private investment
  • 100+ companies supported, including nearly 50 incubated at QFab
  • 35,000+ New Yorkers reached in the first 10 years, including more than 5,000 students

Statement from Jessica Walker, President & CEO, Manhattan Chamber of Commerce

“New York City should be where the next great industries are built, and today’s announcement is a real step toward that. We applaud Mayor Mamdani, Deputy Mayor Su, NYCEDC and NYU for investing in QFab. What excites us most is who it’s for: CUNY and public school students training as technicians, and startups that need equipment few cities can offer. These will be good jobs, and many won’t require an advanced degree. Manhattan’s economy is strongest when it’s diverse and its gains reach more New Yorkers. The Chamber looks forward to helping the companies born at QFab stay, grow and hire here, and to making sure local businesses share in the opportunity along the way.”
