The Chamber hosted its 2021 annual meeting on the evening of December 8. The theme of the event was "A Promising Turning Point for New York," alluding to the city's recovery in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the new political leadership at both the city and state levels.
At the event, Governor Kathy Hochul delivered the keynote address. She exhibited a strong desire to partner with the business community during this critical time of economic recovery, telling our members: “I know that in your hearts you’re dreamers. But New York’s business people are also the people who make things happen.”
The Chamber also honored two distinguished individuals with its Chairman's Award, the highest honor conferred by the Chamber each year.
Entertainer and TV host Nick Cannon was honored for his many philanthropic contributions to the Harlem community. He attended as scheduled despite losing a son days before, saying: “When you’re trying to find yourself you lose yourself in service to others, and creating opportunities for others is one way to do that.”
Michael Kempner, Founder and CEO of MikeWorldWide, was also honored for his invaluable Board service to the Chamber.
Chamber President and CEO, Jessica Walker, also made a presentation on the Chamber's many accomplishments in 2021, particularly its direct outreach to 10,000 small businesses and its distribution of 100,000+ free face masks, hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes.
