Manhattan Chamber Issues Statement on For-Hire Vehicle Cap

Statement from Jessica Walker, President and CEO, Manhattan Chamber of Commerce, on For-Hire Vehicle Cap:
Today’s vote to approve a cap on for-hire vehicles in New York is a mistake, and one that risks limiting transportation options in outer boroughs and could threaten driver employment. New York is an innovative city, but today’s decision to move forward with the cap will send a message to tech entrepreneurs and disruptors that the strong arm of onerous government regulation is never far away. While we desperately need to curtail traffic congestion in Manhattan, a robust congestion-pricing plan is the right tool for the job, not an arbitrary cap on the number of for-hire vehicles operating in the city. We urge the Council and the Mayor to consider the negative impacts this will have on our city and its hard-working drivers.
