Grow Your Business: Manhattan Chamber Business Referral Groups

The Five Borough Economic Opportunity Plan

Nov-12-2009

What People are Saying...

"The revisions to the City’s performance bond will make it easier for small contractors to compete for New York City public works contracts. We expect that these changes will make a huge difference for the city's small and minority- and women-owned contractors." - Thomas Petropole, owner of the Petropole Bonding & Insurance Agency in Brooklyn, on the City’s New Bonding Policy to Help Small Businesses

How the Plan is Helping New Yorkers...

Small Business Success Story

The Department of Small Business Services makes it easier for businesses to open as well as save time and money. So when Elissa Olin, owner of Green in Brooklyn on Myrtle Avenue, needed to navigate the complex world of building permits, she turned to NYC Business Express. This online, one-stop shop helps educate small businesses owners about the permits, licenses, and requirements needed to start and operate a business in New York City. It’s the perfect resource for entrepreneurs like Ms. Olin, who launched a business that sells environmentally-friendly cleaning and home products earlier this year. Not only did NYC Business Express help Ms. Olin understand the permits and licenses she would need, they also helped her to quickly secure a Certificate of Authority.

Job Creation Success Story

In 1989 David Yoo started Royal Food International Corporation, a business that imports, packages, and distributes natural organics and specialty foods. In 2007, the Long Island City-based company sought financing from the City’s Industrial Development Agency to expand into a more than 95,000-square-foot facility. At the time, Royal Food projected that the expansion would help create sixty jobs over the next three years, a goal that the company recently met – one year earlier than expected.
